ARCHROMA introduces water-based textile coatings made from renewable natural materials

As we all know, Archroma's EarthColors® series is a dye synthesized by using bio-waste from the agricultural and herbal industries, such as almond shells or sedum palm leaves. On this basis, Angkor has introduced APPRETAN®NTR, a water-based textile coating adhesive made from renewable natural materials. The new product has been developed for applications such as tea bags, coffee filter paper or capsules. There is a large amount of natural raw materials near Appretan®NTR's Lamotte production site in France.

“Safe, efficient and enhanced” is the product development principle that Angkor has always adhered to, which stems from its conviction that the textile industry can be sustainable. At the Textiles and Nonwovens Exhibition (Techtextil) in Frankfurt, Germany on May 15th, the first new adhesive introduced by Angkor, about one-third of the Appretan®NTR active ingredient is a renewable raw material polysaccharide, which can reduce fossils. The use of fuel resources does not affect performance.

Appretan® NTR contains no biocide or alkylphenol ethoxylate (APEO) and does not release formaldehyde. Compared to industry standard processes, it is designed to save energy by eliminating the need for additional curing steps at elevated temperatures for optimum performance.

Appretan®NTR was originally developed for the chemical bonding of nonwovens for technical textiles and coatings, exhibiting excellent film forming and hydrophobic properties. In addition, the unique chemical properties of this adhesive make it resistant to water, temperature, solvents and greases, as well as higher dry and wet tensile strength. In addition, Appretan® NTR can also be combined with other crosslinkers.

Based on Angkor's knowledge of food contact materials regulations, Appretan®NTR is tailored to the growing and demanding hot liquid filtration market. Appretan®NTR complies with global food contact standards such as FDA 176-170, BfR XXXVI and BfR XXXVI / 1 and is still suitable for use even when immersed in boiling water.
